Is Claim Culture Hurting Our Businesses?

Claim culture for some is an epidemic out of control. We live in a litigious society where people who are injured in some way look for someone to sue in order to collect a large judgment. Of course there is the legitimate accident that happens which could have or should have been prevented and someone is seriously injured.
There is the man who promotes his law firm on television for getting him a million dollar settlement. We never see his whole body though. We only see his head on the screen caption. No doubt the man suffered a severe injury that left him paralyzed.
But we only see the top part of him, his head only. We do not see the rest of his body which is probably paralyzed for life due to whatever injury he sustained. I do not think anyone would take a million dollar settlement in exchange for life in a wheel chair.
And then there is the cases of the slip and falls. This happens when someone will slip and fall on an insurance protected property and then proceed to get the largest settlement he can.
Was the person injured or was it a fake? The issue is a complex one. You see there are many lawyers out there who are making almost minimum wage when you add up all their expenses and the lack of cases they have. This means a lawyer is looking for any client to walk into his office that he can help him pay his rent and his legal secretary.
This is the claim culture we live in. The lawyers and doctors are willing to support it and carry it on. People are thinking their ship has come in when they have an accident on someone else’s property. And you can find a lawyer on every corner to help you get your ship home.
Why anyone in this day and age go into personal injury law cannot be answered. There are not even enough clients out there to feed the lawyers out there already let alone bringing on more lawyers to the scene. The more lawyers the more you have them trying to make a case so they can pay their legal secretaries this year.
This is not to say that we live in a safer society because everyone takes pains to prevent accidents from happening in the first place. One day a woman stopped a man who crossed in the cross walk in front of her car. She wanted his name and address because she thought the man behind her in his car would sue her. He had to brake quickly because she stopped to allow the man to cross. She thought the man would sue her if he hurt himself by braking quickly. Just another move in our claim culture society to protect ourselves.
